Dartmoor rally planned for Sunday 6th October at Hound Tor
In solidarity with the Dartmoor National Park Authority who, with the help of Open Spaces Society will be defending the right to wild camp on Dartmoor when the case heads to the Supreme Court in October, The Stars Are For Everyone will be holding a rally at Hound Tor at 3pm on Sunday the 6th of October.
This will be a chance to show our support for wild camping, celebrate our campaign and set our intentions for what comes next. Join us for an informal and relaxed gathering at this beautiful location.
PARKING
Please do not drive to Hound Tor unless this is an absolute necessity. We are expecting the car park to be full and therefore are asking all attendees who are able, to park in any number of the surrounding car parks and walk over to Hound Tor to join the rally.
You can view a map of nearby carparks within a moderate walk below. Widecombe, Trendlebere and Haytor offer the best locations to begin a walk from.
WALKING GROUP FROM HAYTOR VISITOR CENTRE
There is a guided walking group departing from Haytor Visitor Centre. Meet at 13:00, for 13:30 departure. The walking group will then return leaving Hound Tor at 17:00 (unless weather is bad and we will return earlier, in which case this will be communicated at the Tor). Map of walking route below.
While this is a group hike, it is important to note that ultimately you are responsible for your own safety. Please dress appropriately, brining water, rain coats and appropriate footwear. And methods of disposing of your personal waste and hygiene appropriately.
PERSONAL SAFETY AND COMFORT
Just as you would when heading out onto Dartmoor to camp for the night, please come prepared to look after your own safety and comfort. This time of year can be both cold and wet, and we will be fairly static when at the Tor (although will do our best to keep out of the wind). Please dress warm, bring flasks etc.
DOGS
Please make arrangements to leave dogs at home - if you absolutely must bring them, please ensure they are under control and on a short lead at all times. This is to safeguard other people, wildlife, and the reputation of the campaign. Thanks for understanding.
